THE PERFECT EPILOGUE

A private investigator in yesteryear New York takes up the job of finding if his wealthy client is indeed being stalked as he feels. His discovery takes him from the most elite high class society to the immigrant infested crime prone seedy underbelly of the city of dreams. As the body count rises, he discovers a secret so devastating that there remains no way but to watch the events catapult into an unforeseen tragedy.

      Cut cut cut cut cut.

It’s not just the length. There’s a lot of irrelevant info and words that you can leave out and still be happy. You can fit this whole thing into one sentence, and with less than 30 words.

It’s all about structure. And about practicing in order to get the hang of a logline structure. Keep working.

Change the phrasing, remove redundant words, and eliminate irrelevant info.
Also, there seems to be some grammar problems here. The first sentence, for example, cracks under my tongue.

I can see that you’re a good writer from the logline. With that said, the logline is much too long. Also, “yesteryear” is too vague and can scare off producers who are concerned about expensive period pieces. Exactly what era is it — and are the locations limited so the budget won’t be too high?

Yesteryear in this case means 1960s. The film requires typical noirish elements thus curtailing the cost twice over, firstly on expensive sets and secondly on nearly nil special effects. And a big thanks for the rating :)

Rutger, are you sure that I should reveal more in the logline considering the genre?

OK, you are talking about a “labyrinthine reality” ala Hitchcock. This means there are a lot of twists. And yes you don’t want to give those twists away. And you surely do not want to give the end away in a thriller. But you also must clearly state the theme and what are the deadly stakes. I would put it on http://www.logline.it and let the professionals take a look at it. They already helped thousands of people.Good luck and we will see the renewed logline over here!

An extreme story potential with elements of drama, mystery, suspense and intrigue. Most celebratedly, an exciting comeback of the neo-noir genre.
