No Rhyme….No Reason

The screenplay, ‘No Rhyme…No Reason’ is a psychological horror about a famous rap artist, Dante Wright, who unconsciously murders women. Initially, he was able to escape his plight of being born to a prostitute mother who was murdered right in front of him, in which he later found fame and fortune. But, his old demons came back to haunt him. This story explores Dante Wright’s journey from hell to a semblance of heaven and finally back to hell, which he experiences many taboos of life…sexual deviance, murder, witchcraft/superstition.

I like the idea of this script. It starts out with an interesting traumatic childhood scene and moves quickly from childhood to maturity. But I think it moves to quickly, too abruptly. I would like to see a few more developmental stages to Dante’s decline. The weakest part, for me, was the dialogue. It sounded too obvious, e.g. the comments by the case worker about child Dante’s improvement; also, the language of Dante the rapper sounded canned. I would rework the character to make him more distinctive. The plot elements are fine, but need to be organized for greater coherence, more logical growth from one episode to the next. I like the script’s ending — the padded room craziness — but I would like to see a more credible descent to that level.
