Although the story feels a lot like a rehashing of THE KARATE KID, it does up the stakes by making the fight about saving women and winning justice rather than merely beating up bullies and winning a competition. It also adds a magical element to the martial arts which is interesting. However, I think the magic should be shown earlier in the script (even if Michael doesn’t see it) just so that we know that that’s the type of movie that we’re watching. Great work!

      Berger,

Thanks for the feedback. In the original draft I had an element of the supernatural in the opening but because it did not happen frequently in the movie and it felt as though I was not managing the expectations of the audience. Additionally, I did not want an effects driven concept. Your right though I did take a risk to solve that structural problem and some people may watch the movie and be like WTF when energy is flowing out of the two warriors in the climax. Thanks again for you analysis.
