What can I say about Copenhagen. It’s a simple story, simple concept, but a nice enjoyable ride.

Gethin (who plays Renly in Game Of Thrones) is the lead. We stay with him in the first act as we become familiar with his unlikeable personality. I say “unlikeable” because he is unlikeable in the beginning which changes a bit towards the end after we fully witness his character arc.

I can’t say too much about Gethin’s acting except it was par. The fact that he’s British playing an American trying to find his family in Denmark says something good about his acting skills since I didn’t know the actor was British.

The real shining star in the picture is the lead female Frederikke — she was truly amazing and drove this film. Completely natural and adorable to watch. And this was only her third film! Her previous two include a Danish Oscar Nomination and a win. Keep your eye out for this actress. She should have a bright future. She is easily the best actress I’ve seem yet in both Slamdance and Sundance 2014.

All in all the film is about an American in a foreign country searching for his grandfather. Finding himself as well as discovering the ability to love as opposed to being a frustrated womanizer. A twenty eight year old boy grows into a man when he falls in love with a 14 year old, ironically.

There are a few really powerful scenes, especially the scene when the lead female brings the lead male into the museum and shows him a bust from the 1800’s that looks exactly like her. Great written scene.

The film is easily worth a watch especially to see the performance of one Frederikke.
